Interesting notes, I appreciate the oblique view, or what we might call in mathematics a “strange attractor”.

In debates with a “queer” audience in 1990 on Usenet, I remember the devastation to the gay community which came with HIV/AIDS and remarked on not having gay marriage (today Same-sex) added insult to injury.

The “queer” community reacted vituperatively to the concept of marriage and I realized that “queer” in the sense of “we’re here we’re queer get used to it” has turned into shorthand for a a caustic, festering negative empathy, a nihilistic abyss.

Not about anti-normie, it’s about a connection that induces corrosive decay. Nobody should ever meet another person or establish a human connection in the queer universe.

The purpose of queer is to induce a hell-like eternal grief.

The purpose of queer study is to extinguish joy in life and alienate all affection, until people are utterly alone, talking through keyholes with smoke signals like a character in Genet’s “Notre Dame des Fleurs”, or “Querelle de Brest” the B-Side of Billy Budd.

As trans cannot stop until no women exist, queer cannot stop until humans are so far apart they are totally isolated.

Until that ideal is achieved, articles like the LA Review of Books will continue to leak from the eyes of Arethusa.

In the style of Sappho a couplet on what I think queer is:

δάκρυα ἀργυρᾶ χέω, κελάρυσμα νυκτός·

φεύγουσα θνητούς, πένθει μόνον ζεύγνυμαι.

I pour silver tears

a murmur of night;

fleeing mortals,

I am wedded only to grief.

Queer opposition to reality is just that, an insistence that all must flee humanity, and wed grief eternal.
