I did listen to the interview a couple of days ago. My god AM was awful - using various manipulations and dishonest arguments . Whilst listening it crossed my mind that AM was worse than Helen Webberley - which really takes some doing. My blood pressure couldn’t take listening to it again. I also thought the presenter was very weak and allowing AM to repeatedly talk over Helen. Helen did a brilliant job as usual confronting this wicked gender ideology
Helen, I came across the You Tube version of the interview yesterday (Wednesday 29 July) and listened in then. Ms Murphy provides interesting context and reinforces some of your points. In my view Allison Morris was all over the shop, ad hominen attacks, guilt by association, whataboutery - there wasn't one weapon in the arsenal of bad faith (and bad arguments) which she didn't fail to employ. I hope that you do get some form of apology or correction in the (Belfast Telegraph) newspaper - but I'm not holding my breath. The wagons will - I believe - inevitably form a defensive circle in order protect one of their own. I would love to be proved wrong.
It really did enrage me. They have to lie, don’t they? Lie, and attack the opponent not the opponent’s argument; because the truth IS the opponent’s argument. I don’t know how you do it Helen, but thank you.
I cannot believe how many people are still repeating the old canard that there is no point having laws about single sex provision, because predators won't respect them. This principle doesn't apparently apply to any other law.
Oh, that was a hard listen! My pulse rate went up as soon as this so-called journalist began to attack Helen who managed to counter every single unpleasant remark with a stone cold fact.
I am not sure it is worth debating "trans" or their allies/believers. They are not into open discussion. True, the listeners can learn something about our fact based arguments, but perhaps they learn just as much from us being interviewed by an unbiased interviewer. and the toll on you is not worth it. Talking to captured folks I find utterly exhausting and discouraging and sometimes just useless.
That was such a difficult debate. I'm a dual UK/US citizen but I currently live in US. I'm a lifelong Democrat. I voted against Trump twice even though I care about this issue above all others. Her argument about political association was ridiculous. I feel the opposite. I'm so angry at the Democrats for handing this issue to the Republicans. This should be non-partisan. It deserves careful, caring consideration - not demonization and polarization.
The other thing that undermined any credibility that she had was that her Green friends agree privately not publicly. So it's okay to disagree - just don't come out publicly. It just highlighted your courage and her friends' cowardice.
Also, her mischaracterization of your take on the Supreme Court decision was unforgivable. Uggh.
Thank you, Helen for your bravery, intelligence, and willingness to keep doing this thankless work on all our behalves.
Helen, I wanted to congratulate you and personally thank you for your bravura performance on Talkback here in Belfast. Your skill, articulacy and rational points showed what a seasoned professional journalist looked like. Letters of complaint to the Editor remain unacknowledged.
Thanks again for taking this on. Much appreciated.
Thank you for keeping your cool under such intense fire from a driven and dangerous opponent. To an outsider she might seem initially to have some righteous indignation, but after listening to her behaviour (talking over you, bringing in extraneous issues, dismissing your arguments as "extremist" on no evidence at all, etc) an impartial audience would be left saying to themselves: "Allison Morris is a bully". And bullies don't win arguments.
For my sins, I listened to the whole thing. Good thing I was alone in the kitchen, I was sputtering with frustration. You did a great job, Helen, but the problem (as usual) was the time it takes the truth to get its boots on! Lies are much easier to spout quickly.
I thought you were brilliant and slayed every point. She seemed shaken by the fact that you were on the other end of the the line. It is hard to suffer fools you handled yourself beautifully. It was as if an adult was debating a teenager. Thank you for your ability to clarity to BS they are slinging.
Oooh, I just listened. Morris strikes me as someone like Erin Reed here in the States; that is, someone who poses as a journalist but is really just an activist.
Also, it's funny that Morris thinks that "sexual predators" are "the most devious people on earth", going so far as becoming swimming coaches or football coaches to perpetrate their abuse, but she doesn't think anyone would take the far easier approach of falsely claiming a gender identity to get into women's spaces. That opinion is so incoherent that I am unable to properly refute it. It's so incoherent it's doesn't even qualify as wrong.
I am pretty confident that the average radio listener in NI is more intelligent and fair-minded than Allison Morris seems to believe and that they will very quickly have identified which of the two women debating on this programme was the one with the "nasty attitude"!
I actually left a comment on MJ Murphy’s YouTube video discussing this debate, saying that Allison is by far the worst person you’ve ever debated on this topic, far worse than Freda Wallace AND the ghoul Helen Webberley. Allison is positively unhinged. She could’ve used a tranquilizer dart! Of course she scored zero points on you, Helen, which is no surprise. Her only skill is rapid-fire speech.

Yes, I agree Allison is worse than Webberley. Worse than Freda Wallace. Absolutely enraging.

I listened to the MJ Murphy version - what a bigoted and ignorant person Allison Morris is, and someone who can’t admit when she gets the facts wrong.
While Helen was her usual sane and sensible self.
So basically she thinks so what if predatory men have another opportunity to attack women since they already have so many other opportunities.
I cannot believe how many people are still repeating the old canard that there is no point having laws about single sex provision, because predators won't respect them. This principle doesn't apparently apply to any other law.

Thanks, Helen, I think I'll wait for your article!
